Dan Uneken (1954, Amsterdam)
Dan made his first forays into photography at the age of 16 but it took him another 20 years to make the plunge and become a professional photographer, following a formal education at the Academy of Photography in Amsterdam with specialization in journalistic and social photography. After his graduation he was a faculty member of the Academy for 4 years.
Understanding and documenting his own and other cultures, such as Europe’s expanding migrant communities, the borderless gypsies, or Japan’s drop-out youth, has been a prevailing force behind Dan’s work. He has traveled extensively to conflict-zones such as the Balkan countries, the former Soviet Republic, Israel and Palestine. A keen guitar player himself, he also enjoys documenting theatre and music performances.
Dan’s photographs have been published in newspapers and magazines across the world. His work has been included in the collections of individuals, corporate houses and cultural institutes.
Dan has lived in The Netherlands and Japan, Spain and since 2007 in Norway.
