Riddhibrata Burman (Kolkata, India – 1981)

Burman grew up among the arts. At the age of 13 he discovered the desert of Rajasthan and it provoked an amazing urge to create.

So Burman took to the streets, photographing people and their lives. He graduated from Delhi University and started working for Times of India, for whom he documented various tribes. Then he met Paul Liebhardt, who understood his appetite for this medium and introduced him to Brooks Institute of Photography in California.

America opened up exciting new avenues. He learned about Guy Bourdin, Helmut Newton, voyeurism, German Expressionism. His whole world changed: he wanted to shoot like Steven Klein, Steven Meisel. Fashion - but with stories.

While still a student, Burman moved to Los Angeles where he established a photo studio and started exploring the possibilities of producing the work of his dreams. He also started working for Briese, a production house, which gave him the opportunity to be on sets with people like Steven Spielberg, Annie Liebovitz, Mark Seliger.

Presently Burman is shooting for various editorial and commercial clients, traveling between New York, Los Angeles and Mumbai. Burman’s work has been published in magazines across all continents.
