S Paul (Jhhang, Pakistan, 1931)
S.Paul was invited to join the Indian Express, New Delhi, as Chief of the Photo Department, where he remained for 26 years, from 1962 to 1988. He is India’s most awarded photographer internationally.
He has many firsts to his credit. He is the first Indian to have been profiled with a portfolio four pictures by the World’s oldest and most prestigious The British Journal of Photography Annual 1967, first Indian to win Nikon International Photo Contest in 1971, first prize in the Ballantine’s Finest International Photography Awards (U.K) on the theme “the inspirational image”, first prize in the popular photography Millenium Photo Contest (60,000 pictures submitted from the world over) U.S.A, 1st prize Sanctuary Asia Millenium contest on “wild-life”, first prize on “men at work” in the Agfanet International Photo Contest (Germany) and gold medal in 48th & 49th International Photo exhibitions of Japan, to name a few.
His photographs have been published in the Photography Yearbook, UK, Photography of the World, Japan, US Camera Annual, USA, British Journal of Photography, Foto Almanach International, Germany, and Modern Photography Annual, USA, besides many others.
The B&W Magazine Usa, supposedly the most prestigious photography magazine (whose each issue is a collector’s item) has labeled him the Henry Cartier Bresson of India in their magazine and website Dec 2004.

His solo shows have been held in Max Mueller Bhavan, New Delhi, IFA Institute, Germany.
He is one of the most versatile photographers, with a vast range of subjects and always keeping up with changing trends. Thus his portfolio consists of a wide range in terms of subject, technique and approach.
He currently lives and works in Delhi.
